King Charles III has once again highlighted the rich cultural diversity of the Commonwealth through music, with his newly unveiled King’s Music Room playlist featuring Nigerian superstar Davido.
The playlist, revealed earlier today, celebrates a mix of global sounds, handpicked by the monarch himself.
Davido’s Kante, featuring Fave, stands out as one of the selected tracks, reinforcing the growing influence of Afrobeats on the world stage. Also featured on the playlist are music legends such as Bob Marley, Kylie Minogue, Grace Jones, and the late South African icon Miriam Makeba.
Speaking about his selections, King Charles III said, “I wanted to share with you songs which have brought me joy. They evoke many different styles and many different cultures. But all of them, like the family of Commonwealth nations, in their many different ways, share the same love of life in all its richness and diversity.”
The British monarch also expressed his fondness for Nigerian Pidgin English, recalling his past visit to the country. “I remember attempting to give a speech in Nigerian Pidgin English, and the warmth of the people was truly unforgettable,” he remarked.
For Davido, this recognition adds to an already remarkable career, with his Grammy-nominated album Timeless continuing to amass global success.
As Afrobeats continues to expand its reach, its presence on such an exclusive platform further cements its place in the international music scene. King Charles III hopes listeners will find joy in the selection, stating, “Perhaps you have heard some of your own favorite pieces—and perhaps you may have discovered something new.”
