Ladipoe has reimagined in clever and artistic fashion the popular 2006 classic ‘Olufunmi’ by the music group Styl-Plus, breathing new life into it by infusing it with a contemporary spin that is both fresh and revitalising, and yet ensuring that its timeless romantic essence is not lost.

This soulful refix, provides a smooth and melodic blend of nostalgia with lyrical words and rap Punchlines, creating a listening experience that remains nostalgic for old-time listeners and thrillingly brand new for new ones as well.

Originally released by Nigerian music group Styl-Plus in 2006, the tune ‘Olufunmi’ remains one of Nigeria’s most popular and beloved love songs. The song experienced a remarkable comeback in the pop world last year after the versatile producer ID Cabasa opted to sample it for an electrifying remake featuring BOJ, Odumodublvck, Fireboy DML, and Joeboy.

The track begins with smooth delivery from Ladipoe, and the track swiftly establishes a warm and intimate atmosphere, as he effortlessly weaves together introspective bars filled with sincere affection and innovative wordplay.

Lines like, “If I love another woman I make it a verse too / Then if we break up I’ll make that verse too” serve to highlight his remarkable lyrical prowess and emotional depth he brings to his music, as he adds a playful yet profoundly layered element to the classic and catchy hook.

Ladipoe joined forces with the original singers of the classic hit ‘Olufunmi’, thereby paying tribute to the rich legacy of one of Nigeria’s most beloved and longest-standing love songs.

In this partnership, not only does he pay homage to the song’s classic lineage, but he also revitalises it, rendering it contemporary and catchy for a new generation of listeners. His rap verses infuse a new energy into the timeless tune, forging a captivating soundscape that beautifully marries the old-school elements of R&B romance with the sleek sophistication of new-school hip-hop.

The song is an enchanting and delightful union that seamlessly blends both old and new quite beautifully, succeeding in serving up a sweet and heartwarming shot of nostalgia for long-time fans who have come to love the music of Styl-Plus over the years, while also delivering a fresh and interesting experience for Gen Z audiences who are hearing this classic hit for the very first time.
