The Lagos State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Lawal Pedro, SAN, has provided a crucial update on the ongoing investigation into the tragic death of popular singer Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, better known as Mohbad. At a press conference held at the Ministry of Justice in Alausa, Ikeja, on Monday, October 21, Pedro announced receiving the toxicology report and other forensic analyses conducted in the United States.
Pedro confirmed that the autopsy report is now in the hands of the Lagos State pathologist and the coroner magistrate, marking a step forward in the investigation. He acknowledged the delays, attributing them to the extensive time required for thorough forensic examinations.
“On the Mohbad case, yes, I agree there has been a delay, and the delay is caused by the time taken for investigation,” Pedro stated, emphasizing the necessity of a comprehensive approach to ensure justice.
Highlighting the critical role of forensic analysis, he noted, “Forensic analysis, toxicology, all these are part of the investigation. A full-proof investigation is essential for leading to a conviction in any case that is presented before the courts.”
Pedro also clarified that the toxicology examination had to be performed in the United States due to the destruction of the Lagos DNA and Forensic Centre during the #EndSARS protests in October 2020.
