Manchester United’s quest to offload Jadon Sancho from the club before the summer transfer window closes is taking longer than it is expected.
Transfer news expert Fabrizio Romano had initially confirmed that AS Roma had opened talks with Manchester United for Jadon Sancho but the winger is not keen on a move to Italy. However, Roma are set to move on to other players, especially after reaching an agreement with the other parties involved, including the player’s representative, over agent fees.
What happened between Manchester United and Jadon Sancho?
In early September 2023, Jadon Sancho was dropped from United’s squad for the Arsenal match. Manager Erik ten Hag stated it was due to his training performance.
Sancho responded by posting on social media, pushing back against those claims, calling himself a “scapegoat,” and denying the criticism was fair.
Sancho’s relationship with United deteriorated after a public confrontation with Erik ten Hag in September 2023, leading to his exclusion from the squad. Since then, he’s enjoyed two loan spells—back at Dortmund and then Chelsea—for chances to restart. As of summer 2025, United appears committed to moving him on, with Roma leading negotiations. A transfer for around £20 million is on the table, but it would still represent a major financial loss for the Red Devils.
Sancho’s decision not to apologise to Ten Hag saw him frozen out of the team and loaned to Borussia Dortmund. He was impressive with the Black and Yellow showing impressive performances in the UEFA Champions League. He was also loaned out to Chelsea during the 2024/25 season and was key in helping the Blues win the UEFA Conference League
