The latest update on the injury of Nigeria’s goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali has left fans with more concerns than relief ahead of the AFCON 2023 quarter-final fixture against Angola.
The Super Eagles of Nigeria held their first training session ahead of the AFCON 2023 quarter-finals fixture against Angola on Friday, February 2, 2024, and to the dismay of many, goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali, who has been vital for Nigeria since the start of the tournament, did not train with the team.
Reports and videos from the training ground showed the Chippa United goalkeeper doing some light exercises uncomfortably away from the team.
Following the completion of the training session, the head coach of Nigeria Jose Peseiro confirmed that the goalkeeper had completed the necessary tests with the medical team and they await the final outcome of the report on Thursday, February 1, 2024.

Stanley Nwabali was replaced in the AFCON Round of 16 fixture that saw Nigeria defeat Cameroon by the scoreline of 2-0.
During the post-match press conference, the goalkeeper stated that he was unable to provide any information regarding his injury at the moment. He mentioned that he would have to wait for the medical team to conduct their tests and provide updates.

In a recent report shared by Owngoal Nigeria, it has been reported that Stanley Nwabali has hinted that he will miss the quarter-finals match Angola vs Nigeria at AFCON 2023.
It was reported that Nwabali shared the heartbreak emoji on his whatsapp status a cleat indicator that the results on his injury might not be as positive as fans might hope it should be.
