Former One Direction singer, Liam Payne, was reportedly dropped by his music label, Universal Music, just days before his shocking death. A source told the Daily Mail that Universal Music axed the former One Direction star from their roster as his solo career was floundering.

“Liam’s advance was massive and he didn’t recoup [it],” the insider claimed. “Out of all of the One Direction boys, Liam was on the wrong path musically.”

Payne’s sophomore album was reportedly put on hold before the music label cut ties. The “Strip That Down” singer signed with Capitol Records, which is owned by Universal Music, in 2016 after One Direction announced their indefinite hiatus in 2015. Last night, the Universal Music Group posted an image of Liam Payne on Instagram saying they were ‘devastated’ about his death. The Universal Music Group tribute read:

‘We are devastated by the tragic passing of Liam Payne.

‘His legacy will live on through his music and the countless fans he inspired and who adored him.

‘We send our deepest condolences to Liam’s family and loved ones.’

Meanwhile, it was also revealed that Liam’s PR resigned earlier this month, which left him without any publicity representation. The resignation came as Liam’s ex-fiancé Maya Henry began legal proceedings against the singer after accusing him of repeatedly contacting her.

One source said: ‘It is like all of Liam’s music career that he had built up since he went solo eight years ago was crumbling; there was very little left for him.

‘It must have absolutely devastated him.’

Payne, aged 31, fell from the third floor of a hotel in the Argentinian capital of Buenos Aires on Wednesday evening, before medics confirmed his death. He was found dead by police, who say they found the popstar’s medicines, including clonazepam, a drug that is used to control epilepsy, involuntary muscle spasms, and panic disorders.

Liam Payne’s music label, Universal Music, faced criticism for their handling of his career, highlighting the struggles he endured. The fate of Liam Payne’s music label decisions ultimately impacted his legacy and the trajectory of his once-promising career.
