Argentina’s captain, Lionel Messi is showing absolutely no plans of slowing down at the Copa America tournament as the six-plus times Ballon d’Or winner achieved a new milestone and set a new record at the 2024 edition of the competition.
By starting against Canada, Leo Messi has set a new record for the most matches played in the Copa America with 35 appearances, surpassing Chilean goalkeeper Sergio Livingstone’s record.
Messi broke the record previously held by “Sapo” Livingstone, who played 34 matches between 1941 and 1953, as he began his seventh Copa America tournament. With just one game played so far it is expected that Lionel Messi extends his record to at least 40 matches played in the tournament.
