Veteran Nigerian rapper Jude Abaga, popularly known as M.I Abaga, has openly expressed regret over his past support for the All Progressives Congress (APC) during the 2015 general elections.

Speaking during a recent episode of the Menism podcast, the acclaimed ‘African Rapper No 1’ revealed that his decision to back the party at the time was driven by frustration over the perceived corruption within the then-ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

“Yes, I supported APC because, at that time, I felt that the PDP government was very corrupt. I was one of those who raised my voice to call for change and democracy,” M.I explained.

The rapper recalled the backlash he faced in the years that followed, particularly after commenting on the spate of herdsmen attacks in Benue State. According to him, many Nigerians were quick to remind him of his political stance, blaming him in part for the country’s current challenges.

Reflecting on his choice, M.I Abaga admitted it was a mistake, noting that the APC no longer embodies the values and promises that won his support a decade ago.

“As a human being, you try to do what’s right, but sometimes you’ll be wrong. Unfortunately, APC isn’t the APC of my dreams,” he stated.

Now, M.I says his focus has shifted from politics to nation-building through music, advocacy, and youth empowerment. He emphasized the importance of using his platform to inspire positive change and hold leaders accountable while supporting initiatives aimed at uplifting young Nigerians.

“APC unfortunately isn’t the APC of my dreams.”
