America’s National Football League (NFL) has contributed $100,000 towards Kai Cenat’s school project in the Makoko area of Lagos, Nigeria. Makoko is a thriving neighborhood in Lagos, but an underdeveloped waterfront district characterized by stilted houses and a high population. Despite its hardships, the neighborhood has long been the target of aid and development, and Cenat’s school initiative is set to bring much-needed education to its people.
The donation comes after a charity event in New Orleans. At the event, Kai Cenat and IShowSpeed, another content creator, engaged in a friendly competition before Super Bowl LIX. IShowSpeed’s team won by a narrow margin of 30-29. The NFL did not hesitate to acknowledge the good deed that the two creators had accomplished.
In a viral video posted by the league, the NFL was happy to reveal that it donated $200,000 to both creators’ charities. $100,000 of which will go directly to Cenat’s school project in Makoko, and the rest will support IShowSpeed’s charity for Big Brothers Big Sisters of America.
On behalf of the NFL Foundation and the League Inspire Change Campaign, we are happy to contribute $200,000,” said the announcer in the video. “$100,000 to Speed’s foundation, benefiting Big Brothers Big Sisters of America, and Kai Cenat’s foundation for Kai’s school project in Nigeria. Good job by both of you, aiding deserving young people.”.
American YouTuber and streamer Kai Cenat recently made his first trip to Nigeria in March 2024, making massive ripples on the internet and Lagos streets. In no time, he was rubbing shoulders with legendary Black Americans who had made the “motherland” trip. Nigerians could not wait to show off his adventures, including trying jollof rice, visiting the Makoko slum, shooting some hoops, and gaining some quality time with artist Davido. Despite Nigeria’s current economic challenges, Cenat was received like a superstar at Murtala Muhammed Airport. His lighthearted and jovial nature immediately endeared him to everyone, and he lived up to his reputation as the world’s biggest streamer. He spent four days in Nigeria and then headed to Ghana, where he was similarly received.
To Cenat, this contribution is a giant step towards his ambition of revolutionizing Makoko’s education. The renowned YouTuber began developing the idea for the school on his first trip to Nigeria in 2024, excitedly announcing the initiation of the project.
The journey of me building this new school in Nigeria has been officially sealed today. It’s a go-go,” Cenat said then. “This new school in Makoko is for the kids that are living here. I’ve already started working on the school, and we’re making great progress.”
Cenat also used social media in an appeal for local support in the project, calling on people living in Nigeria and who could help with the construction and renovation of the facility, as well as handyman labor to carry out painting and equipment. He was determined to turn the project into reality, so much so that he made an initial contribution of $3,000 to make it happen.
