Reports now indicate that Man City are beginning to make key moves to stop a possible Rodri transfer exit in the January 2025 window.

Man City is reportedly working to secure a new contract for Rodri as part of an “anti-Real Madrid transfer plan” aimed at keeping their top talent and the newly crowned Ballon d’Or winner in the January 2025 window. The Spanish midfielder has been a pivotal figure in City’s successes, and a potential move to Real Madrid would be a major setback for the club.

Rodri has been sidelined since September 27, 2024, with a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament, ruling him out for the remainder of the season but this according to reports has not prevented Man City from receiving transfer requests for the Spanish midfielder.

According to Cadena SER and journalist Anton Meana, City is eager to extend Rodri’s contract before the season ends and is optimistic about reaching an agreement. The report adds that after his recent Ballon d’Or win, the club views his success as part of their broader growth. However, Real Madrid’s interest in the midfielder concerns the Premier League champions.

Despite Rodri being out for the season, City is determined to solidify his future and although his contract runs until 2027, Madrid has identified him as a priority target for 2025, meaning City would demand a substantial fee for any transfer.

Since joining City from Atletico Madrid in 2019, the 28-year-old Spain international has helped secure four Premier League titles, one FA Cup, two Carabao Cups, a Champions League, a UEFA Super Cup, and a FIFA Club World Cup. In 260 appearances, he has tallied 26 goals and 30 assists.
