As the June 2025 transfer window draws closer, Man City’s top target in the summer has been revealed ahead of the Club World Cup.

Man City have reportedly turned their attention to Olympique Lyonnais star Rayan Cherki as a potential June 2025 transfer target, with the Premier League champions preparing a £25 million offer. This development comes after the club decided to withdraw from the race to sign Bayer Leverkusen’s highly rated playmaker Florian Wirtz.

Cherki has long been regarded as one of France’s most technically gifted young players. Having progressed through Lyon’s youth system, the versatile forward has demonstrated flashes of brilliance in Ligue 1, showcasing creativity, close control, and an eye for goal. Despite Lyon’s inconsistent form in recent seasons, Cherki has stood out as a bright spark and remains one of the most talked-about prospects in French football.

According to sources close to the club, Manchester City’s recruitment team sees Cherki as a more attainable and potentially valuable addition to their evolving squad. The Premier League side had been monitoring Wirtz for several months, but rising competition and a steep valuation north of £80 million reportedly led to the decision to step away from negotiations.

Cherki, on the other hand, presents a more cost-effective option. With only a year left on his current contract at Lyon, City believe a £25 million bid could be enough to convince the French side to part ways with their prized asset rather than risk losing him for free next summer.

While negotiations are still in the early stages, Cherki is believed to be open to a move to the Premier League and eager for a new challenge after several seasons in France. Lyon, for their part, may be forced to cash in amid financial pressures and ongoing squad rebuilding.

As Manchester City prepare for the 2025/26 campaign, the potential addition of Rayan Cherki signals their intent to refresh key areas while maintaining their competitive edge at home and in Europe.
