Marvel Studios has found itself at the center of online speculation after the release of the Fantastic Four: First Steps poster early Tuesday. While many celebrated the new teaser for the highly anticipated film, others quickly pointed out several oddities in the image, sparking rumors that the studio had used AI to create the official poster for the announcement of the movie.
The image, which was unveiled alongside the film’s first teaser, shows a crowd of 20th-century men and women waving at what appears to be the Fantastic Four as they take flight on a superhero mission. While the artwork drew excitement, some fans noticed glaring inconsistencies, such as people with only four fingers and two women sharing the same face. This led to a swift backlash, with many speculating that Marvel had turned to AI technology to generate the poster.
However, Marvel was quick to address the rumors. A spokesperson for the studio denied the allegations, telling The Hollywood Reporter that AI was not used in the creation of the poster. Despite the studio’s clarification, the controversy fueled ongoing debates about the increasing role of AI in the entertainment industry.
The timing of the Fantastic Four poster release coincides with the recent controversy surrounding the Oscar-nominated film The Brutalist. Rumors had circulated that the film’s production team used AI to enhance the dialogue, but director Brady Corbet denied the claims. Corbet explained that only the Hungarian portions of the film were adjusted using Respeecher technology, and that the primary goal was to preserve the authenticity of the actors’ performances.
Fantastic Four: First Steps, the movie is directed by Matt Shakman and stars Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach. The Movie lands in theaters by July 25.
