Renowned Nigerian rapper and music executive, Jude Abaga, popularly known as MI, has expressed deep sorrow over the recent killings in Benue State.
Taking to social media platform X on Monday, June 16, 2025, the hip-hop star condemned the violence and declared his solidarity with the grieving communities.
In an emotional post, MI Abaga described the killings in Benue State as a tragic assault on humanity. “My heart is heavy. It grieves me deeply to see so much of the Middle Belt bleed. The recent killings in Benue are not just statistics; they are our people, our families, our communities being torn apart,” he wrote.
The rapper further pledged his support to those affected, insisting that such violence must not be normalised. “I stand in solidarity with my brothers and sisters in Benue. Your pain is my pain. We can’t normalise this cycle of violence that has plagued our land for too long. To those we’ve lost: we will not forget you. To those still standing, we stand with you,” he added.
MI’s statement comes in the wake of a brutal two-day attack in Guma Local Government Area, where over 200 people were reportedly killed by suspected armed herders. Local authorities and community leaders fear the death toll could be much higher, with several families wiped out and some victims burned alive in their homes.
The incident has drawn nationwide condemnation. Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar earlier described the situation as “a national emergency,” urging both the Federal and Benue State governments to act swiftly and decisively. He called for a transparent investigation into the atrocities and immediate reinforcement of security in the troubled region.
The killings have also triggered widespread outrage on social media, with many Nigerians demanding a state of emergency be declared in Benue to curb the escalating violence.
