Nigerian Rapper MI Abaga shared his thoughts on the rising wave of Nigerian and International artiste collaborations.

Collaborations between Nigerian and foreign artists provide a platform for the fusion of diverse musical styles and cultural influences. Nigerian artists, such as Wizkid, Burna Boy, and Davido, have emerged as prominent figures in the global music scene, attracting the interest of international artists seeking to tap into the energy and creativity of the Nigerian music scene. The rapid growth of Afrobeat is remarkable. In 2022, Burna Boy’s album Love, Damini debuted at an unprecedented No. 14 on the Billboard 200, and Ckay’s Love Nwantiti became the most shazamed song. Notably, Davido and Lojay secured their inaugural entry on the Billboard Hot 100.

In a post shared via social media, MI Abaga said “No disrespect meant… I appreciate the fact that Now every American rapper wants to collaborate with us. However go listen to my catalog.. I have always known who I am and some of these people you guys are suggesting to work with me don’t want these problems. Levels de”.

The artist signed under Chocolate City clarified that his musical compatibility varies with international artists, emphasizing that not every artist and their musical style align with his own. He encouraged fans to explore his body of work, highlighting that not all collaborative efforts would necessarily complement his artistic vision.

This response stemmed from an inquiry by American rapper Meek Mill. He sought recommendations for a Nigerian artist to collaborate with on his upcoming album. MI Abaga had proposed Ice Prince Zamani. However, some fans have been proposing alternative international artists for MI Abaga to collaborate with.
