Independent reggae artist Minna LaFortune delivers a powerful and urgent message with her latest single, Cease Fire—a stirring anthem that confronts the devastating impact of gun violence in urban communities worldwide. With compelling lyricism and a deeply resonant reggae sound, the track calls for unity and an end to the bloodshed that has claimed too many young lives.

LaFortune’s vocal performance is commanding and heartfelt, with production that enhances her voice without overpowering its raw emotion. The instrumentation captures the essence of reggae, blending its signature bounce with elements of hip-hop and dancehall to create a dynamic and universal appeal.

Beyond its sound, Cease Fire is a song with a mission. It vividly portrays the pain and loss experienced in places like Jamaica, New York City, Haiti, Trinidad, and Soweto, where gun violence has left communities grieving. With lines such as:

“Brothers fighting brothers, it’s an international war zone; the enemy is not each other—poverty is the real foe!”

LaFortune makes it clear that the root of violence is deeper than street conflicts—it is a systemic issue tied to poverty and lack of opportunity.

“I wrote ‘Cease Fire’ because I am deeply saddened by the relentless cycle of gun violence affecting young Black men and boys across the globe,” says LaFortune. “Too many of our youth are caught in a cycle where death seems inevitable. This song is a rallying cry for peace, education, and change.”

The music video for Cease Fire, set to debut soon, will bring this message to life with gripping visuals that capture urban struggles, global unity, and moments of hope.

Minna LaFortune, a celebrated figure in reggae music, continues to use her artistry as a platform for social change and empowerment, particularly among women of color and immigrant communities. Currently working on her third album, she remains committed to creating music that inspires transformation.
