The Nigerian Football Federation has announced a new coach for the Super Eagles of Nigeria ahead ahead the Africa Cup of Nations which will be played in 2025.
The Board of Nigeria Football Federation on Monday, April 29, 2024 approved the recommendation of its Technical and Development Committee to appoint former ace winger Finidi George as Head Coach of the Senior Men National Football Team, Super Eagles.
Finidi advanced in his position with the Super Eagles after he spent the last 20 months as an assistant to the former coach, Jose Peseiro. He took charge of the Eagles’ last two friendly games against Ghana and Mali, beating the Black Stars and losing to the Eagles.
The 52-year-old is currently in charge of Enyimba Football Club of Aba in the Nigeria Professional Football League ( NPFL). The Elephants are two points behind the league leaders, Enugu Rangers having played 32 games.
Finidi’s first competitive games will be the Super Eagles’ FIFA World Cup qualifying matches against South Africa and the Benin Republic in Uyo and Abidjan, respectively. These games are a must win for the Eagles following the disappointing outing in the first two group games, they are in third place in Group C behind Rwanda and South Africa.
