The Athletics Federation of Nigeria has named what many have categorised as a strong track and field team of athletes for the Olympics 2024.

The Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) has announced a robust team lineup for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, with the record holder and arguably the biggest athlete in Africa, Tobi Amusan leading the charge.

Team Nigeria is set to compete in nine different events across both the men’s and women’s categories, as well as the mixed 4x400m relay.

Tobi Amusan is listed for the women’s 100m hurdles, with many expecting her to secure her first Olympic medal in her third consecutive appearance in the competition, following her participation in Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2021.

The team also includes seasoned athletes making their third Olympic appearances: Ese Brume in the long jump, Patience George (2016 and 2021), and Omolara Ogunmakinju (2012, 2016). The rest of the squad will be making their Olympic debuts in Paris.

In the relay events, Nigeria has qualified for four out of five categories: women’s and men’s 4x100m, men’s 4x400m, and mixed 4x400m relays.

With a blend of experienced Olympians and fresh talent, Team Nigeria is poised to make a significant impact at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
