Nigerian rapper Odumodublvck and veteran singer Wande Coal have both taken to social media to dish out timely advice to rising music stars, warning them about the realities of the music business.

On May 2, 2025, Odumodublvck sparked conversation on X when he addressed the dangers of signing early record label deals without adequate preparation. The rapper, fresh off his Next Rated win at the 17th Headies Awards, urged aspiring musicians to stay away from advances if their careers and artistry aren’t fully developed.

“Dear upcoming artist, if you know your music is not ripe, stay away from an advance. You do not want to be owing an organisation so much money. You will die a debtor,” he warned. Odumodublvck emphasized the need for patience, hard work, and readiness before chasing major deals or financial backing, adding that rushing into contracts could trap artists in long-term debts.

Just a day later, on May 3, 2025, award-winning singer and songwriter Wande Coal echoed the same concerns in a post on his X page. In his message, the Ololufe crooner questioned the resolve of young artists eager to dive into the competitive music scene.

“Are you sure you really want to do this music business? You must be very sure oooo,” Wande Coal wrote, hinting at the tough, often unseen struggles behind the glitz and glamour of the entertainment world.

The advice from Odumodublvck and Wande Coal comes at a time when conversations around financial literacy, fair contracts, and artist development are gaining momentum in the Nigerian music industry. Their messages have since gone viral, sparking debates among fans and creatives.

DEAR UPCOMING ARTIST

IF YOU KNOW YOUR MUSIC IS NOT RIPE

STAY AWAY FROM AN ADVANCE

YOU DO NOT WANT TO BE OWING AN ORGANIZATION SO MUCH MONEY

YOU WILL DIE A DEBTOR.

PLEASE HEED TO MY ADVICE.

BE PATIENT AND WORK HARD TILL YOU ARE READY.

PLEASE.
