A video shared by Nigerian rapper Oladips detailing his harrowing experience in a South African cell has sparked widespread discussion and concern among online users.

In the video posted on his Instagram page on Monday, February 19, 2024, Oladips recounted his ordeal, revealing that he was detained in a South African cell for three days.

According to Oladips, he departed Nigeria on the same day the Super Eagles were scheduled to play Ivory Coast (Cote d’Ivoire) in the AFCON finals, with his destination being South Africa. However, upon arrival, he was denied entry into the country and subsequently taken into custody.

In the candid video, Oladips expressed his shock and frustration at the unexpected turn of events, admitting that he broke down in tears over his predicament. Despite the challenging circumstances, the rapper showcased resilience by displaying dance moves while inside the cell.

Oladips went on to disclose that he spent three agonizing days in the cell before finally being permitted to board a flight back to Nigeria. The rapper’s candid revelation about his detention has sparked sympathy and concern among fans, who were shocked by his ordeal.

The video has prompted discussions about the treatment of Nigerian travelers in South Africa and the challenges faced by artists navigating international travel amidst stressful immigration policies. Many have expressed solidarity with Oladips and called for greater awareness of the difficulties encountered by Nigerian travelers abroad.

As Oladips’ story continues to circulate on social media platforms, it serves as a reminder of the unpredictable nature of international travel and the importance of advocacy for travelers’ rights and protections, particularly in cases of unjust detainment or denial of entry.
