Olamide drops surprise EP ‘Ikigai / 生き甲斐, Vol. 1’

Nigerian music veteran, Olamide, has sent shockwaves through the Nigerian music scene with the surprise release of his brand new EP, Ikigai / 生き甲斐, Vol. 1.

The new extended play, titled after the Japanese concept of “a reason for living,” marks a significant moment in Olamide’s career, showcasing how he has blossomed as an artist and businessman.

Ikigai, a philosophy rooted in Japanese culture, encourages individuals to identify their life’s purpose by finding the intersection of passion, profession, vocation, and mission. Olamide, a renowned veteran in the Nigerian music industry, seems to be using this EP as a platform for self-discovery and reflection.

Ikigai / 生き甲斐, Vol. 1 unfolds over seven impressive tracks, each one with its unique sonic offering. Olamide exhibits his versatility, seamlessly blending elements of Afrobeats, rap, and soulful melodies to create an amazing listening experience. The EP’s title hints at a potential multi-volume project, we’ll see where it leads us to.

Olamide had some notable collaborations on the EP, Ikigai. The second track, Uptown Disco, features his label’s leading stars, Asake and Fireboy DML, resulting in an energetic and infectious banger. SABRI lends his talents to the captivating Knockout, while the seventh track, Synchro System, marks a much-awaited reunion with Olamide’s former YBNL label mates, Pheelz, Young Jonn, and Lil Kesh.

Over the years, Olamide has transformed from a talented rapper into a multi-faceted powerhouse. He has established himself as a leading voice in Afrobeats and nurtured countless artists’ careers through his YBNL imprint. Ikigai reflects on this evolution, showcasing his artistic maturity and dedication to never stop doing better.
