Legendary Nigerian musician 2Baba has added his voice to the rising demand for sweeping reforms in the country’s ailing education sector, following the release of troubling statistics from the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

In a post on his instagram story, the ‘African Queen’ crooner urged for a complete overhaul of the current system.

“We need to change our entire education system in Nigeria. Alkebulan/Africa #unwashthebrainwash,” the 49-year-old wrote, referencing the broader African identity in his call for decolonized and restructured learning.

Though he did not delve into specifics, his remarks struck a chord as Nigeria grapples with alarming educational setbacks. Recent UTME results revealed that 1.5 million out of nearly 2 million candidates scored below 200, a jaw-dropping 75% failure rate. The figures have reignited national concern over the quality of instruction, curriculum relevance, and student preparedness.

The multi-award-winning artist’s message aligns with a growing chorus of public figures, educators, and activists demanding urgent policy reform and greater investment in education.

Beyond his advocacy, 2Baba has remained in the public eye for personal developments as well. Earlier this year, he confirmed his separation from wife and actress Annie Idibia, a move that sparked widespread media attention. Not long after, he revealed his engagement to Natasha Osawaru, a lawmaker from Edo State, emphasizing that their relationship began after his split from Annie. Osawaru has since updated her Instagram bio to reflect her connection to the singer.

In addition to his personal updates, 2Baba was recently appointed as the Technical Adviser on Entertainment and Community Outreach by the Governor of Benue State, a role many believe could serve as a platform to influence both youth development and education advocacy in his home state.
