Barcelona midfielder, Pedri has decided to sign a contract extension which will see him remain at the Catalonia club until the summer of 2030.
Pedri’s contract extension had been top of the list for the board at Barcelona as his initial contract was supposed to expire in 2026. The decision of the youngster to sign a new deal will be a delight to the supporters and most especially Hansi Flick who had not hidden his love and desire to have the midfielder remain at the club.
Pedri made his Barcelona debut in the 2020/21 season in a 4-0 victory over Villarreal in September before he scored his first goal on his UEFA Champions League debut in a 5-1 win over Ferencvaros in October. He netted his first league goal against Real Betis the next month.
The statement released on the club’s website about Pedri contract at Barcelona read as follows,
“Barcelona and the player, Pedro González “Pedri”, have agreed a contact renewal and he is set to stay with the Club until 30 June 2030. The blaugrana midfielder signed his new contract today in the presence of FC Barcelona president Joan Laporta, first vice-president Rafa Yuste, and the Club’s director of football Anderson Luis de Souza “Deco.”
He won the 2021 Golden Boy award and the Kopa Trophy as a reward for his performance. He is the lattest player to sign an extension. Ronald Araujo has also been tied down to a new deal, while Gavi is expected to be the next player to sign a new contract.
