Pep Guardiola has given an update on the fitness of John Stones ahead of this weekend’s crucial Premier league clash between Manchester City and Liverpool at the Etihad.
The Spaniard was speaking in his pre-match press conference where he confirmed that Stomes will not be available for the game against the Premier league leaders. According to Pep Guardiola the England international will be out for a long period but he can’t ascertain when he will be back for Manchester City.
He said,
John Stones will be out for long period. Soon we’ll know if he needs surgery or not. I said before Real Madrid: we have all the central defenders back! Now you will see. One week later… two central defenders, four months out”.
He also confirmed that for Manchester City to compete again, most of the players must be fit and available.
“The reality is that for the future, if we want to be competing again, we have to be with players fit and available. It can happen sometimes to have injuries, but already it’s many times it’s happened.”
Manchester City have been a shadow of themselves this season after failing to replicate the performance that saw them win four Premier league titles in a row, a feat that had never been achieved in the history of the league. The supporters of Manchester City will hope for a victory against the Reds as they continue in their quest to finish in the top four.
