Nigerian street-hop singer Habeeb Okikiola Badmus, popularly known as Portable, has added his voice to the growing outcry over the recent mass killings in Benue State.
The Zazoo crooner took to his Instagram page to express his concerns and directly appeal to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intervene in the ongoing crisis.
The tragic events reportedly occurred between Friday, June 13, 2025, and Saturday, June 14, 2025, in Yelwata, Benue State, where over 200 people were allegedly killed, with several victims reportedly burnt alive. The gruesome attack gained national attention after controversial social commentator Vincent Martins Otse visited the scene and shared distressing footage online.
Reacting to the tragedy, Portable released a video message addressing the President. In the emotionally charged clip, the singer condemned the violence and accused authorities of prioritising the protection of livestock over human lives in the state.
“Please Daddy Tinubu, hear what Benue is saying. Benue needs your help. They are protecting cows more than human beings,” Portable lamented.
Portable also revealed that he was inspired to speak out after veteran musician Innocent Idibia, popularly known as 2Baba, a native of Benue State, publicly condemned the killings. Portable described 2Baba as a brother and commended his decision to use his platform for advocacy.
Portable, who mentioned that he had once been invited to perform in Benue, said the current state of insecurity would prevent him from visiting. He further urged President Tinubu to take swift action, warning that failure to address the crisis could jeopardise his chances in the 2027 presidential elections.
“Please Tinubu, do the needful. Don’t let them use this to spoil your election plans in 2027. Stop killing people in Benue,” he concluded.
Portable joins a growing list of celebrities and public figures, including 2Baba and rapper MI Abaga, who have condemned the killings and called for immediate government intervention to end the bloodshed in Benue State.
