In a dramatic twist to the saga surrounding the death of late Nigerian singer Mohbad, his childhood friend Ibrahim ‘Primeboy’ Owodunni has issued a strong counterstatement in response to allegations made by Mohbad’s mother, Abosede Aloba. The accusations center on their relationship leading up to Mohbad’s untimely passing at the age of 27 on September 12, 2023.
In a statement released through his lawyer, Akinpelu Ogunbona, Primeboy vehemently denied claims made by Aloba during a recent interview. She alleged that he frequently engaged in altercations with Mohbad and expressed dissatisfaction over the singer’s neglect of their friendship since his rise to fame.
“The interview contained serious allegations, including that our client was advised to flee after Mohbad’s death to avoid suspicion,” the statement highlighted, emphasizing the gravity of the accusations.
Primeboy characterized these claims as “defamatory and intentional,” asserting that they have not only tarnished his reputation but have also adversely affected the affection he receives from fans. He expressed concern that Aloba’s statements are deliberately aimed at damaging his image as a rising star in the music industry.
Primeboy has demanded a retraction of Aloba’s statements within seven days, warning of potential legal action if she fails to comply.
Following Mohbad’s passing, he was buried the next day, but the controversy intensified when his body was exhumed for an autopsy on September 21 at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH). The findings of that autopsy revealed no notable cause of death, prompting his family to call for an independent investigation, which they still demand.
