Ibrahim ‘Primeboy’ Owodunni, a childhood friend of the late Nigerian singer Mohbad, has filed a lawsuit against Mohbad’s mother, Abosede Aloba, over alleged defamation. The lawsuit comes after Abosede reportedly made a statement suggesting that Primeboy had an altercation with her son before Mohbad’s tragic passing.

Mohbad, whose real name was Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, passed away on September 12, 2023, and was buried the following day. His body was later exhumed by police on September 21, 2023, as part of an ongoing investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.

Primeboy’s legal action comes after Abosede allegedly made damaging remarks about him in a video interview published on March 28, 2024. In the interview, she claimed that Primeboy was involved in a confrontation with Mohbad shortly before his untimely death. Primeboy described these allegations as “libelous, injurious, and malicious,” and in response, he is seeking N50 million in damages for the harm caused to his reputation.

In a letter made public via an Instagram post, Primeboy demanded the payment of N50 million for what he termed “exemplary damages” caused by the false and defamatory statements made about him. The letter, which outlines the legal action, states:

“The sum of N50,000,000.00 (Fifty Million Naira only) being exemplary damages for libelous, injurious, falsehood, and malicious statements made of and concerning the Claimant by the Defendant in a video interview made on the 28th of March, 2024, and published in several news media and online outlets, designed to defame the Claimant in the eyes of right-thinking members of society.”

Abosede has been given 42 days to respond to the legal action, or the case may proceed in her absence. The letter further stated:

“You are hereby commanded that within 42 (forty-two) days after the service of this Writ on you, inclusive of the day of such service, you do cause an appearance to be entered for you in an action at the suit of the Claimant.”

In addition to this lawsuit, Primeboy has also filed a petition against Omowunmi, Mohbad’s widow, over what he describes as “false allegations.” As tensions continue to rise, Primeboy’s legal battle with Mohbad’s family highlights the ongoing emotional and legal struggles surrounding the late singer’s death.
