R&B singer R. Kelly is urgently seeking release from federal prison after claims of a murder-for-hire plot targeting him surfaced from within the facility.
His legal team has filed an emergency motion, citing credible threats to his life as he serves a 30-year sentence for sex-related crimes in North Carolina.
According to court documents obtained by TMZ, a terminally ill inmate named Mikeal Glenn Stine, identified as a leader of the Aryan Brotherhood gang, alleges that prison officials conspired with inmates to arrange Kelly’s murder. Stine claims he was offered a chance at freedom in exchange for carrying out the hit, with authorities allegedly planning to stage the killing as an accident.
Stine reportedly informed R. Kelly of the plan in March and later exposed the scheme, offering to take a polygraph test and testify about the alleged plot. Since his defection, Kelly’s legal team warns that another gang member has been tasked with targeting both Kelly and Stine, escalating safety concerns within the prison, where several gang affiliates remain.
In a related move, R. Kelly has petitioned the U.S. Supreme Court to review his case and grant his release from prison. He added that they consider relocating him to home confinement, citing these serious security threats and his need to continue working on music projects. His lawyers argue that the dangers he currently faces behind bars are immediate and life-threatening, requiring urgent intervention.
