Alternative-R&B artist RGRSNW is back with his second offering of the year, titled SNL2, and it’s an ode to his strength as a beat-maker on the rise.
Out via C51 Records and produced by the talented Baitu Manong, each track offers a unique playground for RGRSNW to explore sonically, whilst collaborating with artists like Imani Basquiat and Huey Magicman.
Opener “BIG SNOW” is all breezy high-life with colourful synth instrumentation that sets this track slightly left of centre. It’s followed by a similar instrumental warmth on “ALL THAT I CAN BE,” brimming with the confidence of an artist who is developing his own style and sound.
“INTERSTELLAR” is the best track off the EP, immediately bringing to mind the likes of KAYTRANADA and Toro Y Moi. With yet another solid beat, it’s well put together, and is already shaping up to do well on streaming platforms.
But perhaps the thing that this EP needs more of is the experimental spirit and versatility of RGRSNW’s earlier offerings. No doubt he will continue to expand his sound, learning through trial and error until finally he carves out a niche all his own. Until then, perseverance will be his best friend.
