Man City midfielder, Rodri has opened up on how his club beat Arsenal to become the winners of the 2023/2024 Premier League title.
Following a Premier League win that saw Man City set a new record in the league, Spanish holding midfielder for the Cityzens Rodri has opened up on how his side defeated Arsenal to be crowned the 2023/2024 champions of England.
The Spanish midfielder completed the scoring in City’s 3-1 victory over West Ham, securing a fourth consecutive league title for Pep Guardiola’s team, earning City the top spot and two points ahead of Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal.
According to Sky Sports, Rodri attributed Manchester City’s victory over Arsenal to a superior “mentality”, criticizing the Gunners for not aiming to defeat the champions in their March match.
Rodri even suggested that Arsenal’s decision to settle for a draw at the Etihad Stadium clash against City on March 31 was the reason they lost the title.
In his post-match interview Rodri stated, “To be honest, I think it’s in here. It’s the mentality. Arsenal, also they deserve [to win the league], they did an unbelievable season, but I think the difference was in here [pointing to his head again]. When they came here, they faced us at the Etihad, I saw them and said: ‘Ah, these guys, they don’t want to beat us, they just want a draw.’ And that mentality, I don’t think we would do it the same way. And we caught them. At the end, if you give us one point, we will win the last seven, eight games even though it’s so tough. So I think it comes down to mentality.”
