Nigerian Afrobeats sensation Ruger has given fans a rare insight into his financial journey since rising to fame.

In a recent chat with media personality VJ Adams, the singer, easily recognized by his signature eye patch, spoke candidly about his early earnings and how money has gradually reshaped his approach to life.

Recalling his first-ever payment from his music career, Ruger revealed it was a modest sum of N500,000. Rather than splurging on himself, he chose to give the entire amount to his church. “I didn’t use it,” he explained. “I gave everything to the church.”

His next paycheck, however, marked a turning point. Earning a million naira, Ruger admitted he was overjoyed and treated himself to simple pleasures like parfaits. He went on to disclose that within a year, his earnings had skyrocketed to millions more.

The Bounce hitmaker didn’t shy away from discussing how financial success has inevitably altered his worldview. Challenging the popular belief that money doesn’t change people, Ruger argued the opposite. “Money changes everybody, don’t mind what others say. A lot of things change when you start making money. The way you address things and approach life becomes different,” he said.

Ruger also shared his admiration for American rap icon and business mogul Jay-Z, describing him as a financial role model. He praised Jay-Z’s ability to remain unbothered in the face of public criticism, expressing his desire to attain such a level of quiet wealth. “Some people are so rich they don’t stress at all. That’s the point I want to get to. You see Jay-Z? No matter how many times he’s called out, he never speaks. That’s the kind of money I want,” Ruger declared.

Asides from his financial journey, the interview offered a personal glimpse into the values and ambitions of Ruger. It highlights how fame and fortune have shaped his perspective both personally and professionally.
