Veteran Nigerian rapper, Ruggedman, has publicly dismissed viral reports claiming he was arrested by the Nigerian Police at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Panti, Lagos.

Earlier reports had alleged that a Deputy Commissioner of Police had ordered the detention of Ruggedman alongside fellow music veterans Sunny Neji, Zakky Azzay, Boniface Itodo, and Raymond Lasisi. The group was reportedly accused of burglary, criminal trespass, and theft of over $130,000 from the national secretariat of the Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria (PMAN).

The incident drew public attention after social justice advocate, Harrison Gwamnishu, raised concerns on Instagram, alleging that the entertainers were being unjustly treated without due investigation.

However, in a video message shared on Saturday, May 24, 2025, Ruggedman categorically debunked the news that he was arrested and the claims. He described them as baseless and a product of misinformation. “Don’t be deceived by fake news,” the rapper warned, clarifying that no arrests had taken place.

He further explained that the controversy stemmed from internal disputes within PMAN, accusing a suspended member of spreading falsehoods to retain control of the musicians’ union. “A disgruntled individual we suspended from PMAN is now alleging funds are missing from the office we visited, without providing any evidence,” Ruggedman stated.

He emphasized that the group’s actions were part of a broader effort to reclaim PMAN from alleged mismanagement and protect the rights of Nigerian musicians. His remarks have since sparked widespread reactions, with fans and industry colleagues commending him for his transparency and courage in addressing the issue.
