Nigerian Afrobeats singer, Adekunle Gold has opened up about a past heartbreak and responded to a fan’s comment regarding his wife, Simi, on his X page.

In a post on Sunday, May 26, 2024, Adekunle Gold revealed that his song Damn Delilah was inspired by a past relationship where he discovered his girlfriend was dating another man simultaneously. He recounted receiving a threat call from the other man, prompting him to realize the deception and resulting in heartbreak.

“You people, I have told the story many times. Anyways, I was in a relationship with a girl that had a boyfriend (I didn’t know). Me I don fall, but the babe dey play me,” Adekunle Gold wrote.

He further explained, “Long story short, one Saturday morning, I got a threat call from a random guy saying I should back off, I should never speak to his woman again. I called the babe immediately, she don block me everywhere. Lol. I got so heartbroken and made Damn Delilah.”

Responding to the post, a fan named Reynold_x commented in the section, expressing a desire for Simi to break Adekunle Gold’s heart, suggesting that the song that would follow would be a hit.

“I need simi to break your heart Cus the song that comes after will definitely bang,” Reynold_x said.

Adekunle Gold reacted to the comment by sharing a meme, indicating that he was unfazed and had no one to inform the man otherwise.

The singer’s candid revelation and witty response have sparked conversations on social media, with fans expressing support and empathy for his past experiences. Adekunle Gold and Simi, who are known for their musical talents and public displays of affection, are yet to comment further on the matter.
