Nigerian social critic, commentator, and singer Seun Kuti has addressed the recent controversy surrounding activist Martins Vincent Otse, aka Verydarkman.
During a live session on Friday, October 25, 2024, Kuti clarified his relationship with Verydarkman, stating that he supports him as a friend but does not control his actions.
Seun Kuti’s remarks come after Verydarkman’s non-governmental organization received over N200 million in anonymous donations, including N100 million from music mogul Don Jazzy.
Meanwhile, the donation sparked online debate, with critics questioning Verydarkman’s integrity. Also, Seun Kuti acknowledged that some assume he is behind VDM’s moves but emphasized that the activist operates independently.
Additionally, Seun Kuti expressed his personal reservations about charity, preferring to allow individuals to reveal their true intentions through their actions.
“I don’t like charity, but I like letting people do what they want… Let them show their real intentions,” Seun Kuti stated.
Lastly, Kuti’s clarification aims to dispel speculation about his involvement with Verydarkman’s activities.
“He (VeryDarkMan) does what he wants to do. I am just here to help how I can as his guy”
