Award-winning Nigerian singer and songwriter, Simi, has joined the heated conversation surrounding the recent viral Ibom Air incident, but her focus is not on the passenger whose actions stirred controversy.
Instead, the music star is directing attention toward the individual who recorded and posted the now-infamous video online without blurring sensitive details.
Taking to her Instagram Stories on Monday, August 11, 2025, Simi expressed strong disapproval over the way the footage from the Ibom Air incident was handled, describing it as a violation of privacy and dignity. The video, which quickly made rounds on social media, captured a female passenger being escorted off the aircraft in an incident that exposed parts of her body to the camera.
While acknowledging that the passenger’s own actions might be subject to legal consequences, Simi stressed that the person who filmed and published the unedited clip should also face scrutiny.
“So let’s say the lady is actually mad and did too much,” she wrote. “Someone recorded her being dragged off the plane, recorded her being exposed like that AND THEN POSTED IT without editing out this exposure or blurring it out. Lol.”
The Duduke crooner went on to highlight what she sees as a troubling imbalance in public reaction, noting that while the woman at the center of the drama is being widely criticized and may face prosecution, almost no one is questioning the conduct of the person behind the camera.
“I personally wanna know who posted that video and why no one is holding him/her accountable. Because aunty will face the law, but voluntarily posting her half naked for millions of people to see, when less than 10 people actually witnessed it in the first place, deserves punishment,” Simi wrote.
Simi wrapped up her statement with a moral reminder that justice should be balanced and fair. “Because you can’t condemn one madness and leave another one,” she concluded, pointing out that shaming someone publicly by violating their privacy is itself an act worthy of condemnation.
The singer’s comments have since prompted a new wave of discourse, with legal and ethical questions being raised about the responsibilities of bystanders who choose to share sensitive or compromising footage in the age of instant virality.
