Armand Joubert and Sossi have teamed up for a bold new collaboration, and we seriously cannot get enough.
“Slag” is an ode to the Afrikaans LGBTQIA+ community, bringing with it a strong message of self-acceptance, of love and of diversity, with a vogue-style sound that feels pretty revolutionary for the Afrikaans music scene right now.
“When it came to production, vogue tracks were a huge inspiration,” says Sossi. “It was important to me to create a beat that makes you want to dance, but also feels dramatic. The song wouldn’t be what it is without Armand’s vocal arrangements and Hendrik Joerges’ production finesse.”
“Armand, in my opinion, has the best vocals in the Afrikaans music industry,” she continues. “He’s alsosomeone who can channel a queer, fierce attitude, in Afrikaans. Working with him was so natural. No ego, just someone who loves what he does and goes for it.”
“It all came so naturally,” says Joubert, “but I have to give credit to Sossi because she had already written and produced most of the song before I even started working on my contribution. She knew exactly what she wanted to bring to the table, and for the first time in my career, I just followed, because I trusted her.”
Armand Joubert, as the first openly queer mainstream artist in Afrikaans pop, meets Sossi’s innovative so-called “gunch-pop” and together, they make magic.
“Slag” is a club anthem. A dance-floor heater. A sweaty and sensational call to embrace yourself—and your body—without shame.
