Singer Tems has officially become one of the owners of the top MLS side San Diego FC with her latest partnership.

Official reports have now confirmed that the Grammy award-winning singer and performer Tems has now joined the club ownership group of the popular MLS side, San Diego FC.

Tems has officially joined San Diego Football Club’s ownership group as a club partner through her company, The Leading Vibe, the club announced on Wednesday February 12, 2025.

With this move, she becomes the first African female to be part of an MLS ownership group.

Expressing her excitement in the press release, the Nigerian singer-songwriter-producer said, “I am thrilled to join San Diego FC’s ownership group and to be part of a club that celebrates creativity, culture and the power of community. Football has a unique way of bringing people together, and I am excited to help build something special in San Diego, a city that thrives on diversity and innovation.”

According to Billboard, Tems is partnering with Pave Investments, an African private investment firm that previously played a key role in leading a group of strategic investors into NBA Africa in 2021. As part of this partnership, Tunde Folawiyo, Pave Investments’ chairman, and Kwamena Afful, the firm’s founding director, will also be joining San Diego FC’s ownership structure.

According to the announcement, San Diego FC sees Tems as a cultural icon whose influence aligns with the club’s mission to unite communities through football.

Her involvement, along with other new investors, will help advance the goals of Right to Dream Academy—a youth football development initiative—while also supporting San Diego FC’s broader commitment to empowering communities both on and off the field.

San Diego FC CEO Tom Penn praised Tems’ addition to the club, describing her as “an extraordinary artist and cultural force worldwide.”

He further emphasized that “Her passion for empowering the next generation aligns perfectly with our mission, and her commitment to creating opportunities for young talent domestically and globally reflects the core values of Right to Dream.”

Penn also highlighted the club’s plans to strengthen ties between the football and music industries, using culture and sport to bring communities together.
