Nigerian international sensation Tems has revealed her deep admiration for American rapper Lil Wayne, expressing her eagerness to meet the hip-hop icon.
In a recent interview on The Cruz Show, Tems opened up about her love for rap music, recalling how she used to emulate Lil Wayne during her childhood.
Her journey into the world of hip-hop began at a young age, thanks to her older brother, who introduced her to the genre.
“My brother is the one that introduced me to rap because he used to listen to a lot of it… That’s how I got the influences,” she explained.
Reflecting on her youthful enthusiasm, Tems shared, “I used to pretend to be Lil Wayne when I was younger,” naming tracks like “Mrs. Officer,” “Mr. Carter,” “Comfortable,” and “Hustle Music” among her favorites.
When asked about her own rap voice, she admitted, “It is a little cringy,” playfully acknowledging her reluctance to showcase that side of her artistry.
Despite her rising star status, Tems has yet to meet Lil Wayne, but she remains hopeful that an encounter will happen soon. “I’m eager to meet him,” she expressed.
Her passion for hip-hop shines through in her debut album, Born In The Wild, which features a rap track titled “T Unit.” Tems has also collaborated with Grammy-winning artists like J. Cole on “Free Fall” and Future on the Grammy-winning single “Wait For U,” featuring Drake.
