Nigerian singer and producer Terry G has finally addressed the long-standing controversy surrounding his involvement in the hit 2009 track Pass Me Your Love, originally owned by fellow artist AY.Com.

For years, Terry G faced criticism for frequently performing the song, which he featured on, at shows and events, with many accusing him of overshadowing AY.Com and hijacking the track’s success. The issue, which has lingered in conversations about both artists’ careers, resurfaced recently on social media.

In a series of posts shared via his official X handle, Terry G dismissed the accusations that he stole Pass Me Your Love as baseless and driven by ignorance. “To those saying I stole Pass Me Your Love from AY.Com, that’s pure ignorance. So I don’t have the right to perform a song I featured on? Your favorite artists do it all the time, but when it’s me, it becomes a problem. Hypocrisy at its finest,” he wrote.

The Free Madness crooner went on to clarify that he never claimed ownership of the track nor included it in any of his albums. According to him, the controversy was always a matter of public misunderstanding and misplaced outrage. “Some of you ruined AY’s moment with your noise, not me. As for my shine, nobody can block it. You no reach,” he added defiantly.

In a surprising twist, Terry G suggested that the controversy itself, rather than any wrongdoing on his part, may have contributed to the decline of AY.Com’s career, further fueling discussions about the incident’s lasting impact on the early 2010s Nigerian music scene.

The comments have since sparked renewed debate online, with fans divided over who truly benefited and who lost out in the saga.

To those saying I stole ‘Pass Me Your Love’ from that’s pure ignorance. So I don’t have the right to perform a song I collaborated on? Your favourite artists do it all the time, but when it’s me, it becomes a problem. Hypocrisy at its finest. And no, I…
