Renowned Nigerian singer, Terry G has lavished praise on fellow musician Wizkid, drawing comparisons with American hip-hop icon, Jay-Z.
While in a podcast with Media Personality, Adesope, Terry G extolled Wizkid’s influence on the Nigerian music scene. Also, he went on declaring him the “Jay-Z of our generation”.
In his words, “Wizkid is the Jay-Z of our generation. He’s the first [born child of the new generation of Nigerian musicians] and we’ll always give it to him.”
Also, He fondly recalled their 2016 collaboration, where Wizkid visited his Ishaga residence for a recording session, resulting in four unreleased tracks.
However, Terry G also revealed a legal request from Wizkid’s team to remove their song Mary Jane from digital streaming platforms due to clearance issues.
“I didn’t clear the song I made with Wizkid [‘Mary Jane’] because, in my era, we don’t clear songs; we do collaborations based on love. The lawyers have reached out to me to take the song down,” He stated
Nonetheless, Terry G acknowledged his oversight, emphasizing the importance of professionalism and paperwork in the music industry.
Additionally, He has since taken down the song and vowed to ensure its removal from all platforms.
Meanwhile, Terry G’s tribute to the Star Boy shows the significant impact of the younger generation of Nigerian musicians, with Wizkid at the forefront.
