South African hip hop heads have spoken, and the results are in! In a poll hosted on our SA Hip Hop Mag WhatsApp Channel, over 10,000 fans voted for their favourite SA hip hop album of 2025 so far — and the numbers reveal not only who’s resonating with the streets, but who’s setting the tone for the culture this year.

The overwhelming winner? Riky Rick’s posthumous album, Boss Zonke Forever, which racked up an incredible 3.8K votes, making it the clear fan-favourite and a powerful tribute to the late icon. The project, laced with nostalgia, love, and a legacy that still burns bright, is more than just an album — it’s a movement.

Trailing behind in second place is Yanga Chief’s LORD FAKU: THE LIFE OF A DYAN, pulling in 2.4K votes. A lyrical and conceptual heavyweight, Yanga proves once again that he’s one of the most consistent voices in the game, delivering a project that blends introspection, social commentary, and street-certified heat.

Rounding out the top three is Big Zulu’s Icala Le Mpumelelo with 1.1K votes, an album that’s bold, honest, and dripping in Zulu pride. Big Zulu continues to hold it down for traditional storytelling in hip hop, with bars that connect deeply with fans across generations.

Also making waves in the poll:

Nadia Nakai’s Braggacy secured a solid 703 votes, showing that her fanbase remains loyal and that her confidence-driven flows are still hitting.

PdotO’s SIPHELELE: BOOK II came through with 652 votes, proving the love for his poetic delivery and spiritual undertones.

Ginger Trill’s Because I Said So earned 629 votes, a strong nod for one of SA’s most slept-on lyricists.

Gigi Lamayne’s Doves and Scones, while with fewer votes at 531, continues to reflect her loyal following and creative evolution.

The Takeaway?

Riky Rick’s legacy is not just surviving — it’s thriving. The fans’ choice makes one thing crystal clear: Boss Zonke Forever isn’t just the album of the year so far — it’s a cultural reset.

With six months still to go, it’s anyone’s game. But for now, Riky sits on the throne.

Stay locked on SA Hip Hop Mag as we continue tracking the hottest drops, emerging voices, and fan favourites through the year.
