The manager of Bayern Munich, Thomas Tuchel, is set to sign a new contract with the Bundesliga club, but he has put in place certain conditions if he will stay beyond this season.
Earlier this season, Thomas Tuchel announced that he would leave the Allianz Arena at the end of this campaign following a series of poor results in cup competitions and the league. However, there might be a change of plan as Bayern is yet to find a perfect replacement for the German.
There are reports from top sports journalists that representatives of both parties have been in constant communication this week and it looks more likely that Tuchel will sign a new deal.
Why did Tuchel announce that he wants to leave Bayern Munich?
The former Chelsea manager agreed to leave Bayern Munich after a run of three consecutive defeats in all competitions which appears to have cost him his job. Back-to-back Bundesliga losses to Bayer Leverkusen and Bochum left Bayern eight points off the top spot while they also suffered a UEFA Champions League last-16 first-leg setback against Lazio in Rome.
Why will Thomas Tuchel remain at Bayern Munich?
Bayern Munich is keen on keeping Tuchel beyond this season but for this deal to see the light of day, it comes with a caveat. He has reportedly demanded that Bayern sign Bruno Fernandes from Manchester United and Joao Palhinha from Fulham. Tuchel believes that the absence of the number six position and a creative midfielder was the reason why Bayern Munich was not up to par this season.
The Bavarians could also be losing Jamal Musiala during the summer transfer window. According to reports, Manchester City is interested in signing the young German in a bid to boost their squad.
What did Thomas Tuchel say?
However, in the turn of events, Thomas Tuchel revealed that both parties could not reach an agreement on things he expected from the club for a contract extension to be signed.
“The feedback from recent weeks was the foundation for us having a discussion to stay and continue together but we couldn’t reach an agreement. I won’t name the reasons. The agreement from February stands, I am leaving Bayern.”
