Enzo Maresca has seen his Chelsea team go deep in form in the last few games which has left fans frustrated and worried about the team’s direction under the Italian as they are struggling to find consistency across all competitions.
However, Enzo Maresca has remained optimistic about turning things around at Chelsea. One area the Italian has identified as crucial for improvement is the team’s ability to win games by small margins. After the FA Cup exit to Brighton, Maresca emphasized the need for Chelsea to learn how to win games 1-0, which has been one of the team’s problems in recent games.
In terms of tactics, Maresca has hinted at using Cole Palmer as a solution to Chelsea’s striker shortage. Palmer has been Chelsea’s main man in attack, with 14 goals and six assists, and Maresca’s willingness to adapt and find new solutions is a positive sign.
Ultimately, turning Chelsea’s season around will require a combination of tactical adjustments, player development, and squad management. While the task ahead is daunting, Maresca’s experience and expertise make him well-equipped to address Chelsea’s challenges and lead the team back to success.
However, here are three things we have highlighted that Maresca must do to turn Chelsea’s season around.
(1) Revert to the traditional back 4 or 3:
Chelsea have played with an inverted full-back who always drops to assist the midfielders since the arrival of Enzo Maresca but it seems that other clubs have found a way to stop that system of play which has made it difficult for them to win matches.
Maresca could use the traditional four defenders which would make it difficult for other teams to find loopholes in his backline against leaving spaces either at the right or left side of the defence.
(2) Drop Robert Sanchez:
Chelsea fans have lost trust in their number-one goalkeeper since the arrival of Enzo Maresca. Sanchez has always been prone to conceding silly goals and he is also prone to making mistakes which has cost Chelsea vital points since he was signed from Brighton.
Maresca seems to have had enough of the Spaniard after he made a horrific mistake against Manchester City which saw Erling Haaland lopped to ball over him into an empty net.
Chelsea fans have called for Filip Jorgensen to replace Sanchez in goal for the rest of the season despite conceding a goal against West Ham United which was a mistake from Levi Colwill. Jorgensen is known for his good distribution of the ball to his players whenever he sees an opportunity to do so unlike Sanchez who holds on to the ball to rather play from the back.
(3) Nicolas Jackson:
The Blues forward player has lost the form that he started this season with under Maresca. The Senegalese international was a pain to most defenders in the earlier part of the season scoring goals and assists to his teammates but that seems to have dried up for Jackson who has not scored more than two goals in more than five games.
Enzo Maresca must do his best to find his player’s form back because this will be crucial in helping Chelsea finishing in the top four at the end of the 2024/25 season.
