In honour of Black Music Month, NPR Music’s beloved Tiny Desk concert series is shining a spotlight on female artists with an all-women lineup of performers including Tems.

The special series is titled “Giving Female Musicians Their Flowers”. It aims to celebrate the immense talent and contributions of Black women in music.

Tems is known for her rich, emotive vocals and genre-blending sound. She quickly rose to global stardom with hit features on songs like Drake’s Fountains and Wizkid’s Essence. Since then, she won a Grammy award and is setting the music scene in flames with her upcoming album.

The all-female lineup is a testament to the depth and diversity of Black women’s musical contributions. It spans genres, from R&B and hip-hop to jazz and beyond. Other artists set to perform include Grammy-winning singer-songwriter Jazmine Sullivan, rising star Doechii, and acclaimed jazz vocalist Cécile McLorin Salvant.

The Tiny Desk concert series, known for its intimate, stripped-down performances, has long been a platform for showcasing the raw talent and creativity of artists from diverse backgrounds. By dedicating an entire month to celebrating Black women in music, NPR Music is amplifying voices that have often been overlooked or underappreciated in the industry.
