The trailer for Tiwa Savage’s directorial debut film Water & Garri has been released. The film will be released on May 10, 2024, via streaming giant, Prime videos.

Water & Garri is about an ambitious fashion designer (Aisha) who has spent the last 10 years in the U.S. and returns to her native country following a family bereavement. The film is directed by Meji Alabi. This film was a long time coming as Tiwa Savage already curated the tracklist for the movie in 2021. The EP also called Water and Garri features Brandy, Amaarae, and Tay Iwar. The EP will also be the film soundtrack.

Tiwa steps into the shoes of Aisha for this film, joining the talented cast that includes Mike Afolarin (known for Far from Home, Soole, and Adire), Andrew Bunting, and Jemima Osunde (renowned for her roles in Shuga, Rumor Has It, and New Money). While this isn’t Tiwa Savage’s debut in acting, it’s a return to her first passion before music. Her earlier acting role was in MTV’s Shuga. She said in her interview with ABC “I’ve always wanted to do acting. I’ve always wanted to do movies. Actually, that was my first love before music. So it felt like a full circle moment for me. I just felt it was time for me to finally get into that. I never wanted to let go of music, so it’s a great way for me to still embody that.”
