One of the owners of Chelsea Football Club, Todd Boehly has revealed the plan of the club to build a new stadium outside of Stamford Bridge as a long term goal.

Todd Boehly conducted an interview in Hong Kong where he spoke about building a new multi-purpose arena, like that built by Tottenham Hotspur which can be used for other activities aside from just playing football.

However, the American did not say if they are redeveloping Stamford Bridge or moving to a new stadium site, though he did highlight the complexities of building inside London. He added that they will consider the Chelsea fans in their deliberations.

What did Todd Boehly say about Chelsea’s new Stadium?

He said,

“I think that’s going to be where we’re either aligned or we ultimately decide to go different ways. What’s been written and talked about is much more “drama” than what is actually happening. You know, sporting infrastructure. We’re just on the very front end of the sporting wave and sporting infrastructure is going to be a big thing about it. We have 16, 20 years to figure out, you know, obviously, inside of London, it’s really complex. It’s not as if we’re building something in the middle of a rural environment. We have a lot of constituencies to make sure that we care about. Certainly, the Chelsea fanbase is one. Long-term, we’re going to be building something new and we’ll figure it out.”

When was Stamford Bridge built?

Stamford Bridge, the home stadium of Chelsea Football Club, officially opened as a sporting arena on April 28, 1877.  It was built as a home for the London Athletic Club, Stamford Bridge was used almost exclusively for athletics until 1904.

However, no concrete information has been given as it concerns when the Stadium will be built and what the fans should expect.
