South African sensation Tyla continued her meteoric rise on the global music stage, securing the Favourite Afrobeats Artist award at the 2025 American Music Awards. The glittering ceremony was held Monday night at the Fontainebleau Las Vegas, and Tyla’s win marked another major milestone in her breakout international journey.

The 22-year-old artist, best known for her chart-topping hit “Water,” clinched the award in a fiercely competitive category stacked with Nigerian heavyweights Wizkid, Rema, Tems, and Asake. Her victory solidifies her status as a leading force in the genre, building on the global momentum she’s gained over the past year.

Wizkid, who made history by winning the inaugural Afrobeats category at the AMAs in 2022 for “Essence,”.

While Tyla’s win drew cheers across the African music community, the evening’s biggest story belonged to Billie Eilish, who swept the ceremony with a clean seven-for-seven win. Eilish dominated the top categories, taking home Artist of the Year, Album of the Year, and Song of the Year, cementing her place as one of the most decorated artists of the night.

On the flip side, pop powerhouses Taylor Swift and Ariana Grande faced surprising shutouts, losing in every category they were nominated for — a development that left fans and industry watchers stunned.

Eminem made headlines in a nostalgic comeback moment by picking up his first AMA wins in 15 years. The rap icon claimed Favourite Male Hip-Hop Artist and Favourite Hip-Hop Album, a testament to his enduring influence in the genre.
