South African music sensation Tyla made history at the 2025 Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards, not only hosting the star-studded event but also clinching the award for Favourite Global Music Star, representing Africa.

The lively ceremony took place at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica and was packed with high-energy performances, celebrity appearances, and of course, Nickelodeon’s signature slime moments. Tyla, 23, kicked off the evening at the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards with a vibrant Best of Summer dance celebration alongside DJ Benny Blanco and a troupe of dancers, with a surprise cameo from Smurfette delighting the crowd.

Marking her debut as a major international awards show host, Tyla described the moment as surreal. She shared that as a child, she once auditioned for Nickelodeon, making her latest milestone feel like a “full circle moment.” “It’s crazy how things come around,” she laughed in a pre-show interview, though she jokingly hoped for just “a little drizzle of slime,” a wish that didn’t quite come true as she ended up drenched alongside other presenters.

Midway through the show, Tyla was named Favourite Global Music Star (Africa), beating nominees from six other global regions. In her acceptance speech, she said: “This means the world to me, to represent Africa on a global stage and be recognised by all you amazing kids out there… wow. Thank you for believing in me and dancing with me. Africa to the world!”

The award adds to Tyla’s rapidly expanding collection of international accolades, which already includes a Grammy, American Music Award, and over 30 major honors.

Other notable winners of the night included Sabrina Carpenter, who walked away with three KCAs, claiming Favourite Song for Taste, Female Breakout Artist, and Favourite Album for Short ‘n Sweet.

Tyla’s performance and hosting duties drew praise from fans and industry insiders alike for her charisma, confidence, and effortless charm, marking a proud moment for South African representation on the global stage.
