The manager of Real Madrid, Carlo Ancelotti has confirmed that Thibaut Courtois will start the UEFA Champions League final against Borussia Dortmund.

The Italian was speaking in a press conference ahead of the game which will be played at Wembley Stadium on Saturday, June 1, 2024. Carlo Ancelotti confirmed that Thibaut Courtois will start the Champions League final ahead of Andriy Lunin.

He said,

“Thibaut Courtois will start tomorrow. Lunin will be on the bench.”

Courtois was injured for most of this season, having picked up an injury during the pre-season, suffering two serious knee injuries, Courtois has kept clean sheets in the four games he has started since returning to action on May 4 against Cádiz.

However, the Belgian has been speaking tough ahead of the final against Borussia Dortmund.

“I feel 100% ready for who the coach decides to play at Wembley. We are all [the goalkeepers] at 100% and it will be [for] the coach to decide who plays. Many people thought my season was over [when he suffered a new knee injury in March] but I had hope that I would return to play. The game against Cádiz was a personal victory.”

Courtois was omitted from Belgium’s provisional squad for the European Championship, with the national team ahead of the Euro Championship. Belgium’s coach Domenico Tedesco said Courtois had told the team that his body wasn’t ready for the international tournament.
