
Bayer Leverkusen forward player Victor Boniface has announced his retirement from the Super Eagles after the friendly game against Russia.
Boniface announced his exit from the national team via his official instagram account on Friday, June 6 2025. He was substituted in the 61st minute for Toluwase Arokodare, who scored the crucial equaliser in the game to save the Eagles from defeat.
Boniface has been criticised recently by supporters of the Super Eagles due to his bad form since he is asked to represent.
“Proud to play for my country and a dream for me also. Really enjoyed every moment, the good and the bad. Thanks a lot. Thank you all. I do hang boot.”
Victor Boniface hasn’t scored any goals for the Super Eagles yet, despite his impressive form for Bayer Leverkusen. He made his debut for Nigeria in a 6-0 win over Sao Tome and Principe in September 2023, providing an assist for Samuel Chukwueze’s goal. Since then, he’s played eight games for the national team without scoring.
Boniface has expressed admiration for teammate Victor Osimhen’s skills and remains confident.
