Victor Osimhen’s future at Napoli suffers a big blow

It is possible that Victor Osimhen, a forward player for the Super Eagles, may leave last season’s (2022/23) Serie A Champions, Napoli when the summer transfer window closes.

Napoli failed to qualify for the UEFA Champions League after being unable to replicate their fantastic form from last season that saw them win the Serie A title. The final UCL spots went to Juventus and Bologna following Atalanta’s crucial victory over Roma, leaving Napoli out of the race for top-flight European football.

With only two matches left, Napoli is nine points behind Roma in sixth place and is mathematically unable to reach the UCL places, even if the Serie A gets six representatives in the new UCL format.

What does this mean for Osimhen’s future?

This situation might give other top clubs an opportunity to lure the forward player away from Napoli. Osimhen has been linked with a possible move to Chelsea, but the lack of Champions League football for the Blues could have been a significant obstacle in signing the Nigerian. However, with this latest development, the probability of the 2023 CAF player of the year moving to Stamford Bridge has increased.

Osimhen has scored 15 goals and four assists in 22 appearances in the Serie A, with two games left in the season.
